This novel is a compilation of two books found on Project Gutenberg: Victorian Short Stories of Successful Marriages, and Victorian Short Stories of Troubled Marriages. I chose to combine these two books to emphasize the duality within marriage and the content within the stories. The first portion of the book, successful marriages, is set in traditional black on white, wheras the latter portion, the troubled marriages, is set in white on black. The table of contents is reflected in the title pages and ties the design of the book together. The front and back covers are before and after images of the Victorian era fire in the Crystal Palace.
